Explosive limits for purging pipelines carrying flammable substances using gas mixtures
Using inert gas mixtures helps to considerably enhance safety at work in operations involving the displacement of flammable vapours and gases from pipelines, for example, in displacement purging of gas pipelines.
Mathematic modelling of mixtures of vapours of certain flammable liquids and gases with air – under pressures of up to 6 MPa – together with the conditions in the mixtures so formed, proves that when using inert gas mixtures with a maximum oxygen content of 10% vol., produced by recently developed mobile membrane separators, the concentrations of the flammable substances will be outside explosive limits even under higher pressures.
